Uses
Based on a review of this drug by the National Academy of Sciences-National Research Council and/or other information, FDA has classified the indications as follows:
“Possibly” effective: Contact or atopic dermatitis; impetiginized eczema; nummular eczema; infantile eczema; endogenous chronic infectious dermatitis; stasis dermatitis; pyoderma; nuchal eczema and chronic eczematoid otitis externa; acne urticata; localized or disseminated neurodermatitis; lichen simplex chronicus; anogenital pruritus (vulvae, scroti, ani); folliculitis; bacterial dermatoses; mycotic dermatoses such as tinea (capitis, cruris, corporis, pedis); moniliasis; intertrigo.
Final classification of the less-than-effective indications requires further investigation.

Iodochlorhydroxyquin (Clioquinol) is an antifungal agent and a member of a family of drugs called hydroxyquinolines. Chemically, Iodochlorhydroxyquin is 5-chloro-7-iodo-quinolin-8-ol. Its structural formula is:

Each gram of ALA-QUIN ® contains 5 mg Hydrocortisone USP and 30 mg Iodochlorhydroxyquin USP in a cream base consisting of purified water, cetyl alcohol, glycerin, stearyl alcohol, polysorbate 80, sodium lauryl sulfate, cetyl palmitate, sorbic acid.

Adults and children 6 to 12 years of age (with adult supervision): 2 or 3 sprays in each nostril not more often than every 10 to 12 hours. Do not exceed 2 doses within any 24-hour period. Children under 6 years of age: Ask a doctor.Shake well before use. Before using for the first time remove the protective cap from the tip and prime metered pump by depressing pump firmly several times. To spray, hold bottle with thumb at base and nozzle between first and second fingers. Without tilting head, insert nozzle into nostril. Fully depress rim with a firm, even stroke and sniff deeply. Wipe nozzle clean after each use.
